The body was the real target

Jon Jones mixed kicks, clinch pressure and distance control until Stipe Miocic had to defend several levels at once. The finishing body kick made sense because the body had been part of the argument all night.

Miocic was fighting more than age

The long layoff and age mattered, but the harder problem was Jones variety. Every exchange asked Miocic to process stance, range, kick threat and grappling threat together.

Preparation became visible

Jones later discussed drilling the spinning attack extensively. In the cage, that preparation showed in how quickly he recognized the opening and committed without hesitation.

A legacy win with a clear pattern

The highlight will be the kick, but the pattern was layered control. Jones made the safer choices first, then used the spectacular strike once the defensive picture was set.
